Trek Hardtail Mountain Bikes

If you’re not sure what ‘hardtail’ means, it means there’s no rear suspension - so the back end of the bike is ‘hard’. This has pros and cons - many expert riders prefer hardtails because there’s better feel and control, the bike is lighter and stiffer. But for those wanting comfort and going over rough terrain, suspension helps.

Hardtails are also much less expensive because you’re not paying for all that technology in the rear suspension of a ‘full-sus’ (full suspension) bike.

Hardtails comprise nearly all beginner bikes, because they are so much cheaper and will do everything you need. They start with the ‘jack of all trails’ bike - the Marlin range. You can begin with a basic Marlin and add lighter equipment as you go up through the range, but the Marlin is a great place to start. They're called entry level or beginner, but the bikes are true mountain bikes that all riders can progress on. Click here to see Trek’s Marlin range - you can buy from them and have your bike delivered to us and assembled, or buy from us. Prices range from £525.

Procaliber is the highest end of cross- country hardtails. Starting at £1100 for the Procaliber 6, these are super lightweight, high performance bikes with no compromise. See the range here
